[Class 60] A device for sharpening razor blades &c. comprises a concave sharpening surface mounted in a box provided with a lid, which carries a pad adapted to be charged with oil or other dressing and conforms to the surface when the lid is closed so as to apply oil &c. to the surface. The box 1 has a bottom 2 and end walls 3 and a lid hinged thereto at 7 and having a top 4 and front and rear walls 5, 6. Each wall 3 has therein a groove 8 providing an inclined seating 9 for a flexed strip 10 of steel, the ends of which are retained by the parts 11. The lid has therein a soft absorbent pad 12 arranged resiliently to contact the strip 10 when the lid is closed, the pad being charged with oil or other dressing material ; the lid may comprise a top and front wall only, the box having a rear wall as indicated at 14. The strip 10 may yield under pressure on the blade being sharpened to an extent limited by a block 15 or by an upstanding rib. The ends of the strip may be bent over and housed in grooves in the walls 3 ; the curved edges of the strip may be notched near the ends to engage pins or projections on the box, or the strip may be unyielding, being tempered in the desired curved form. The box may carry a pad for blotting or drying a blade and may be arranged to house blades, a holder and other accessories. In place of the strip, a curved surface formed on a block housed in or forming part of the box may be used. Specification 549,593 is referred to.
