589,334. Dropping bombs &c. from aircraft. IMBER, J., and IMBER RESEARCH, Ltd. May 31, 1943, No. 8665. [Class 9 (ii)] Bombs, flares, or the like 1, to be dropped from aircraft, are held in a cluster until they have fallen to a predetermined height, as in Specification 575,605, whereupon they are released by an explosive device, controlled by a height-regulated fuze 8, such as is described in Specification 561,931, the fuze at the same instant igniting the fuzes 12 of the constituent bombs &c. The ends of the bombs &c. are engaged in seats 3, 5 in end-plates 7, 6 respectively, and the plates are interconnected by bars 17, which are pivoted to eyes 18 on the plate 6 and fastened to the plate 7 by plugs 16, which tightly engage in small explosive-containing cylinders 14 on the plate 7. The flash from the fuze 8 passes by tubes 13 to the explosive in the cylinders 14 and the plugs 16 are blown out so as to disconnect the bars 17 from the plate 7, thus freeing the elements of the cluster, as shown in Fig. 4. Other tubes 11 convey the flash to the bomb &c. fuzes 12. The rods 17 may also hold in position arcuate plates 2, which form a cylindrical casing for the cluster. 20 is a suspension hook on a T-shaped bar 21, extending between the end-plates.
