594,944. Floating bridges; temporary roads. WALKER, D. W. R. March 9,1944, No. 4394. Convention date, July 14, 1941. [Classes 20(i) and 107] A flooring or roadway for a raft structure, e.g. a buoyant mat, or for stretching over soft soil, &c., comprises sections each composed of transverse track members clamped on their ends between upper and lower longitudinal stiffening members. The sections may be coupled rigidly end to end or may be articulated. The sections may consist of planks 11, Fig. 3, laid on flat steel bars 12 provided with bearing plates 14a for stirrups 14 which pass upwardly between adjacent planks and receive through their upper ends the upper longitudinal members 13 of angle or other rolled steel section, the members 13 being clamped down on to the planks by wedges 17 driven into the stirrups 14. An intermediate pair of upper and lower stiffeners may be similarly applied between the ends of the planks. Adjoining sections may be coupled by pins 19, Fig. 4, on the end stirrups, passing through holes in the aligned lower longitudinal members 12, 121, one of these being offset at its end to overlie the other. Specification 594,942, [Group XXXIII], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also diagonal bracing interposed between the lower longitudinal members, and a ramp for waterside use comprising Sections R1, R2, Fig. 8, (Cancelled), coupled by a hinge bolt 29. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
