[Class 30] In pruning shears or secateurs of the type in which one jaw has a fixed cutting edge and the other has mounted on it a rotary cutter which is interconnected with the first jaw so that closing of the jaws causes rotation of the rotary cutter to effect shearing action, the jaw carrying the rotary cutter is recessed to receive the cutter and thereby protects and shrouds that part of the cutter which at the time is not in use. A rotary cutter 6, with bevelled cutting edge 8, is mounted on a pivot bolt 9 in the recess 10 of the jaw 1, and the jaw 2, with fixed cutting edge 7, has a pin 12 which engages with a slot 11 in the cutter 6 to give partial rotation of the cutter when the jaws are brought together. A number of slots 13 may bo provided so that different parts of the rotary cutter may be utilised. To reduce the size of the head of the shears, the cutter 6 may be formed as a segmented member only and the jaw 1 correspondingly reduced. According to the Provisional Specification, the jaws may be mounted one at the end of a long pole and the other connected with and operated by a lever at the other end of the pole.
