[Class 40 (v)] An arrangement for suppressing impulsive interference in the reception of amplitude modulated signals comprises a series-connected diode 3 (Fig. 1) associated with an output circuit 4, 5 whose time-constant is chosen so that the diode 3 ceases to conduct when the rate of rise of input potential exceeds a predetermined value. The diode 3 is normally maintained conductive by a positive bins applied to its anode over the resistance 4, and as shown (Fig. 1) is arranged to suppress positive-going impulses. The circuit may be re-arranged to suppress negative-going impulses (Fig. 2, not shown) and may include a filter section 6, 7 giving a further improvement in the signal/noise ratio. In a combined arrangement (Fig. 3) employed to suppress impulses of either sign, a pair of diodes 3, 3A are connected in series and in reverse sense, bias being applied over the resistances 4, 4A respectively and the circuit completed by the resistance 2.
