[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] In a spark - ignition internal - combustion engine wherein a rich mixture formed by a carburetter 26 is forced into the cylinder 1 by an auxiliary piston 14 and the main air change enters through a valve 8, the throttles 6, 21 in the air pipe 5 and mixture pipe 19 respectively are connected together by means adjustable by a pressure - response device 46 which on alteration of the throttle 21 by hand lever 29 automatically sets the throttle 6 to maintain constant the ratio of the pressure drops across the throttles. A bell-crank lever 113 connected to the throttle valve 21 actuates a lever 120, linked to throttle valve 6, through links 114, 119 pivoted on a spindle 118 movable by a servomotor piston 116 controlled by a valve 129 connected to diaphragms 138, 135 subjected in chambers 145, 147 to the pressures on the engine sides of the valves 6, 21 respectively, and in chamber 146 to atmospheric pressure. The areas of the diaphragms are chosen to maintain the desired ratio of pressure drops across the throttle valves. Specification 14383/45, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, is referred to.
