[Class 65 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] A sliding door for a passenger vehicle comprises two leaves 14, 15, Fig. 1, adapted to move together as a unit until the leaf 14 covers, for example, a fixed part 13, whereupon a trip mechanism 26, Figs. 2, 4, connecting the leaves 14, 15 is released and the leaf 15 moves independently over the leaf 14. The leaf 15, Figs. 2, 4, is suspended from a channel rail 16 by brackets 23, 24 having rollers 18 guided in the channel and the leaf 14 is similarly suspended in a channel 17 by brackets 21, 22 and spaced from the channel 16. The trip mechanism 26 comprises a Y-shaped bracket pivoted at its centre to a pivot on the bracket 22 and biassed with the stem downwards by a spring 27, Fig. 4. Each arm of the Y-shaped bracket is provided with a roller 33 which runs on a short length of' track 34 attached to the rail 16, one of the rollers running off the end of the track in either the open or closed position of the door. In the closed position of the leaves, Fig. 2, one roller of the trip contacts the track 34 and the stem 28, which has been brought into the vertical position by the spring 27, is spaced a distance x from a buffer 35 on the leaf 15. When the leaf 15 is moved to the left by a rod 25 either manually or pneumatically, the buffer 35 contacts the stem 28 of the trip, whereby the leaves 14, 15 move as a unit until the other roller 33 of the trip clears the end of the track 34, the trip then rocking about its pivot to permit the stem 28 to clear the buffer 35. This action disconnects the leaf 14 from the leaf 15 and allows the leaf 15 to continue its movement across the leaf 14, the stem 28 riding on the top edge 37 of the leaf 15 until it clears the end, whereupon the spring 27 moves the stem into the vertical position for engagement by a buffer 36 on the opposite side of the leaf to the buffer 35. In this position the door is finally open and the trip in position to actuate the leaf 14 on movement of the leaf 15 towards the closed position.
