A process and apparatus for extracting oil from fish-liver or other oil-containing parts of fish or marine animals

In the extraction of oil from fish-liver, whale blubber and other fish or marine animal parts by disintegrating the liver &c., removing the tendons and separating the remainder in a centrifugal separator, the disintegration of the liver and the disengagement of the tendons are effected simultaneously in an arrangement comprising one or more, in the latter case coaxial, rotating perforated cylinders in which stationary rods, pins, &c. are arranged which disintegrate the oil-containing part of the liver, allowing it to pass on whilst retaining the tendons. In the form shown, the perforated cylinders 1, 2, 3, carried by a rotatable shaft 4, are enclosed in a housing 5 covered by a lid 6, to which the PICT:0614972/III/1 rods, pins, &c. 7, 8, 9 are affixed. The tendons wind around the rods and remain within the cylinders, the liver mass being discharged into a tank 11 from which it is fed to the centrifugal separator 12. Water may be added through pipe 10 and also to the tank 11 to dilute the mass and the latter may also be heated in the tank 11. The perforations in cylinder 2 are finer than those in cylinder 1, and the perforations in the latter have the rims on its inside bent up and with curved edges to increase the disintegrating effect.
