Improvements in viewing devices for use in viewing cinematograph films

[Class 97 (i)] Means are provided for moving a film continuously past a viewing or projection lens, the film being illuminated only when a frame is in viewing position by a gas-discharge lamp controlled by a switch member which when it registers with a sprocket hole on the film, causes the lamp to be energized. The apparatus is intended for use with films that have one sprocket hole for each frame and may be used with sound films. As shown, the film 4 is wound by hand between spools 2 and 3 over a table 5 of U-shaped cross-section. A metal finger 7 is normally held out of contact with the table 5 by the film, but when a sprocket hole registers therewith the finger makes contact with the table, thereby closing the circuit of the lamp 6. Alternatively the finger may operate a switch. The viewing lens 8 may be replaced by a projection lens and a ground-glass screen.
