[Class 106 (iii)] A device for recording graphically the entrance and exit of passengers on a vehicle comprises a movable plate on an entrance step and two electrical contacts which close in an order dependent upon whether a passenger is entering or leaving, each contact operating a device which makes a distinctive mark on a moving band. A centrifugal governor 2 operates a switch 4 so that the device only operates when the vehicle has stopped, but a switch attached to the door may be substituted. On entry, a passenger steps on the plate 7 which moves inwards on rollers and closes a contact 15, thus energizing an electromagnet and causing a pen 13 to make a record on a moving strip 6. On moving to the next higher step, the plate 7 is pushed outwards, closes contact 16 and operates a pen 14. Fig. 2 shows a record of a passenger boarding and a passenger alighting. The strip 6 may be operated by a clockwork mechanism 17 and recording rollers 18 may be provided. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), one pen only is used and moved in opposite directions by the electromagnets. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the plate 7 pivots about an axis 26. The strip may be used to determine the times at which passengers enter and leave and the mileage between successive stops. The total number of passengers may be registered on a counting mechanism.
