[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 15, 1947.] [Class 103 (v)] An arrangement for coupling one vehicle to another comprises a U-shaped member B extending rearwardly from the first vehicle and pivoted thereto by the ends of its limbs about a horizontal transverse axis T in the vicinity of the wheel axis, a beam F rigidly carried by the second vehicle and extending forwardly thereof, a first universal joint connecting the rearwardly extending base of the U-shaped member B and the forward end of the beam F, a second universal joint connecting one end of an intermediate member P to the beam F, and a third universal joint connecting the other end of the intermediate member P to the U- shaped member B, the first and second universal joints forming a substantially vertical hinge axis between the beam F and the U-shaped member B. The intermediate member P may take the form of a telescopic unit in compression, as in Fig. 1, or of a chain PSP1/SP in tension, as in Fig. 5. To provide universal movement between the end of the member B and the beam F, in Fig. 1, a coupling such as that shown in Fig. 4 may be used. In Fig. 7, the invention is shown applied to a train of vehicles. Special arrangements are also described for ease in coupling the member B to the beam F and the intermediate member P at its lower end connection.
