641,465. Checking progress of work. KUTCHUKSAN, N. Sept. 2, 1946, Nos. 26386 and 26387. Convention dates, Sept. 1, 1945, and Aug. 14, 1946. [Class 106 (iv)] A machine for checking the progress of work of an operator, work-shop or factory, comprises a movable control member on which are arranged fixed and longitudinally adjustable scales and signs or markers representative of work periods placed in relation to said scales, and means movable proportional to time to detect the presence of a sign and transmit an indication to a signalling device or control member. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a frame 1 carrying a grooved cylinder 2 rotatable in bearings therein and selectively adjustable under the action of a prime mover. The grooves 3 receive tubes 4, preferably transparent, held in position by spring clamps and supporting other clamps and sleeves 12 to serve as markers or indexes. Mounted within each tube is a pair of relatively displaceable scales 13, 14, Fig. 6, and in the spaces on the cylinder 2 between the tubes are other scales and holes to receive coloured markers 9 or indexes 12a. Additional scales 15 with slidable pointers 17 are arranged on rods carried by the frame. The frame is formed with rails 18 supporting a carriage 19 adjustably mounted by means of half-nuts engaging a screw 20 driven by a clockwork or other constant-speed motor 21. The carriage supports a detecting means, such as a light projector 23 and a photo-electric cell 24 for use in determining the position of the markers and indexes and to transmit the indication to an audible or visual signalling means. Other cylinders 30 with scale graduations are mounted in the frame for longitudinal adjustment, the bearings therefor being slotted to move the cylinders towards and away from the main cylinder in comparing readings. These cylinders also carry transparent sleeves 34 with scale graduations to serve as verniers. In a modification, Figs. 7 and 8, the main cylinder is made up of recessed parts 65 and intermediate wedging blocks 68 and in place of the tubes the parts 65 carry cylinders 41. Each cylinder 41 is closed at its ends by packing 45, 47 and is supported on fixed piston-rods 43 extending inwardly from each end of the main cylinder. For adjusting a cylinder 41 compressed air is supplied thereto by a distributing means and valves (not shown) through a central inlet 58 in the piston 43. The cylinders 41 carry supports 73 for channels 71 in which the scales are inserted and on which adjustable markers 74 are supported. Other channels 71 are secured to the wedging blocks 68 for the reception of the fixed scales.
