647,623. Hasp locks. LILLIE, A. E.,.and HIRD, H. Nov. 10, 1948, No. 29232. [Class 44] In a hasp lock of the kind having a manually operated, spring controlled bolt adapted to engage a shackle passed through an opening in the front plate, the lock casing is furnished with bifurcated rivets whereby it is adapted for attachment to the side of an attache, suit or like case. The shanks 8, Figs..5, 6 of the rivets extend through holes 5 in a flanged back plate 2 secured to the front plate by lugs 1b, 1c, Fig. 7, pressed out of the front plate to form slots 9, 10. End portions 6 of the back plate are pressed in over the rivet holes so that the heads 8a are gripped between the front and back plates when assembled. In assembly the rivets are placed on the front plate and the back plate fitted over them and secured by bending over the lugs 1b, 1c. Between the pressed-in portions the back plate provides a space 3, Fig. 6, to accommodate the sliding bolt 4, Fig. 7. The bolt comprises a flanged pressing, the operative portion being a projecting lug 4a extending across the slot 9 for engagement with the hasp shackle. A portion at the rear of the bolt passes through the other slot 10 and is connected on the outside with a button for withdrawing the bolt. A spring 15 engages a fixed lug 2a on the back plate to maintain the bolt in the shot position. A keyoperated locking tumbler 16 is slidably mounted between the rear flange 4c of the bolt and a retaining member 22 urged against the tumbler by another arm of the spring 15. The blade of a key inserted in the hole 20 engages between the arms 18, 19 on the tumbler and is adapted to displace it into the locking or unlocking positions where it is retained by projections 24 engaging in either of a pair of V-shaped notches 23 in the member 22. In the locking position (shown in Fig. 7) the tumbler abuts, on one side, the lugs 1c on the front plate and on the other side a projection 25 on the bolt which is thereby secured against withdrawal. In the unlocking position the tumbler is disposed clear of the lugs 1c 'and they are received in slots 26 in the bolt as it is withdrawn.
