674,940. Conveyers. TRIGGS, W.W. (Norton Co.). Dec. 17, 1948. No. 32720/48. Class 78 (i). [Also in Groups XII and XXXVII] Loading and unloading mechanism for tunnel kilns, particularly kilns of the type disclosed in Specification 673,532, [Group XII], wherein the load e.g. grinding wheels 92, is carried on belts 80, comprises a loading conveyer55, a transfer conveyer 79 feeding an elevator 22, a ram 23 pushing one or more batts into the tunnel and unloading a corresponding number onto discharging conveyer chains 24, 25, and a series of driven rollers 26 feeding idler rollers 27 on a sloping receiving table 331. The conveyers 55 and 79 comprise endless bands 18 and 19 with supporting rollers 51 and 83 and sprocket gear drives from motors 28 and 33 respectively, adjustable tensioning rollers as at 89 being provided for the bands. The elevator 22 and ram 23 are operated hydraulically using mains water supply, reversing valves 226 and 228 controlled by solenoids 200 and 205 respectively being provided, and the discharging chains 24, 25 are driven through sprocket gearing from a motor 36 which also actuates the rollers 26 through a chain and sprocket drive, an adjustable tensioning sprocket 266 being provided for the chains 25. The sequence of operations, whereby one or more batts according to the spacing of electrical switches disposed below the belts 19 are charged and a correspondnumber discharged, is controlled automatically by an electrical timer and control circuits (see Group XXXVII). The charging door 341. Fig. 8 and discharge door are so interconnected by cables 352 that they open together when the former is raised by a bracket on the elevator 22 and said charging door 341 is formed with an opening 342 which opens up the tunnel when the door is raised.
