[Class 110 (ii)] Means for regulating a rotary compressor comprise regulators 9, 17, on the suction and delivery sides, and a byepass valve 2 which when opened by a spring 4 connects the delivery pipe 1 with a pipe 5. Fluid under pressure in the inlet pipe 6 acts through a pipe 7 to raise a plunger 8 and allow the fluid to pass through a pipe 11 to a space 12 and thus force down the valve 3. The compressor can then deliver fluid past a non-return valve 14 to a receiver 13. As soon as the pressure 'in the receiver reaches a predetermined figure, a plunger 16 is raised and a pipe 19 is opened to the pressure fluid to allow the latter to pass under the head of the valve 3 and lift the valve. When the pressure in 6 falls, the plunger 8 also falls and allows communication between the space 12, through the pipe 11, to the atmosphere. The spring 4 then raises the valve 3 bringing about no-load running conditions. Valves 20 prevent compression in the cells C when the pressure in the delivery pipe falls.
