710,858. Cables. OSNABRUCKER KUPFER-UND DRAHTWERK. Nov. 20, 1950, [Nov. 21, 1949; May 2, 1950; May 22, 1950.] No. 28297/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. [Also in Group XXII] A seamless metal sheath is applied to a cable in the form of a tube into which the cable core is drawn, the tube being thereafter shrunk down on to the core, the drawn out end of the tube and the means for shrinking the tube being moved in opposite directions and at different speeds by tractive forces derived from tensioning means acting, in the case of the device for gripping the drawn-out end of the tube, through a brake or slipping clutch. The metal tube may be of aluminium, aluminium alloy or steel, and after sheathing, the cable is dried out and may be evacuated and impregnated and a corrosion resistant coating applied to the sheath. The outer coating may comprise a fibrous covering over the sheath, armouring wires therearound, and an outer covering of plastic material such as polyvinylchloride, the fibrous material containing materials to enable it to be bonded to the plastic covering, the armouring machine being arranged between a machine for applying the fibrous material to the sheath and a plastic sprayer. Alternatively the outer coating may comprise armouring wires embedded in a plastic covering or between two layers of plastic. In this case the armouring machine is arranged between two plastic sprayers.
