Classes 120(i) and 120(ii) Sliver - drawing mechanism of the kind comprising a driven feed roller, a delivery roller loaded by a top roller and driven at a substantially greater peripheral speed than the feed roller, and a sliver-guide roller which is of larger diameter than the delivery roller and is so disposed between the feed roller and the delivery roller that a sliver passing between the feed roller and the delivery roller engages the top of the sliver-guide roller and is lapped round at least approximately one-third of the circumference thereof, is characterised in that a movable band is arranged above and is adapted to press the sliver against the sliver-guide roller, the movable band passing round a guide element which has a radius of curvature substantially smaller than the radius of the driven delivery roller and is disposed in a space formed between the top roller and the sliver-guide roller, thereby determining the point where the sliver becomes disengaged from the sliver-guide roller. The guide element may be adjustably mounted. As shown the mechanism comprises feed rollers 12 and 13, delivery rollers 14 and 15 and a driven sliver-guide roller 18 so arranged that the sliver 11 passes over the top of roller 18 and is lapped round nearly half the circumference thereof. Above the roller 18 is mounted an endless belt 19 which presses the sliver down on to the roller 18 and is guided by three elements 21, 22 and 23 carried in a frame member 20 pivoted at 24 and carrying a sliding weight 26. The point where the sliver 11 leaves the roller 18 is determined by the position of the guide element 23 which is adjustably mounted. The surface of the roller 18 is preferably roughened or may be provided with recesses or grooves, or with teeth, needles, barbs or like projections, or with a coating or layer of hard granular material.
