A single-phase shell type laminated transformer core has a central limb 1 of regular hexagonal crosssection, and each lamination layer comprises plates of two different sizes which are the same for all layers. The yokes 3 joining the winding limb 1 with limbs 2 may be equi-spaced as shown, or in a modification, not shown, two may be adjacent each other and spaced 120 degrees from the third.
