693,557. Electro-deposition of zinc. POOR & CO. June 3, 1949 [June 19, 1948], No. 14961/49. Class 41. An acid zinc electro-plating bath comprises zinc sulphate dissolved in an acidic aqueous liquid containing a member from the group consisting of aldonic acids and aldonates which are soluble in the acid zinc solution, in a quantity sufficient to produce anti-burn effects in the bath. Aldonates do not include those which are difficultly soluble in water, as, for example, calcium gluconate. A suitable aldonate is zinc gluconate, which may be prepared as described in Specification 693,592, [Group IV (b)]. The liquid may also contain an alkylated naphthalene sulphonic acid or a soluble salt thereof. When the two materials are used together a bright zinc plate results from the electrolysis. The sulphonate may be an isopropyl naphthalene sulphonate sodium salt. Other suitable sulphonates include the butyl, isobutyl, amyl, and isoamyl derivatives and the ammonium, potassium and other water-soluble alkali-metal and alkalene-earth metal salts of the alkylated naphthalene sulphonic acids. Electro-deposition may be carried out using direct current or other type of current, for example pulsating current. A disclaiming reference is made to Specification 693,558.
