Class 120(ii) Skeins are wound by a rotating arm 8 about upper forks 3 and lower steps 6, the upper forks each being formed in steppedfashion 5, 4, the arrangement being that the first turn of the skein is deflected by a cam-operated finger 9 to fall, at its upper end, on to the step 4 whereas each further turn is wound about the upper step 5. When the two ends are knotted together, cam-operated fingers 12 (not shown), lift the top of the first turn up on to the step 5 and in doing so the slackness in the last loop due to the operation of the knotting elements is taken-up as the first turn of the skein is brought to the size of the others.
