A method for the manufacture of therapeutically effective agents from peloids

Peloids, i.e. bog peat, organic slimes, muds, or clays formed by weathering marl, are mixed with a multiple of the amount of liquid necessary for their liquid saturation, are agitated for a long time continuously or several times a day, air being admitted, are then divided in a mixer or colloid mill at room temperature to a peloid suspension liquid, are then left standing for a long time, and are finally separated by filtration into a clear liquid and a residue, both of which have therapeutic properties. The two final fractions are both suitable for the preparation of medical baths, embrocations and inhalations. The method may be carried out at elevated temperatures not exceeding 55 DEG C. Thickening agents such as cellulose ethers and esters, sodium salts of carboxymethyl cellulose, or very finely divided clays, muds or peat powder may be added to the peloid suspension liquid, and preservatives or bactericides such as sodium benzoate, or benzoic acid may be added to the resulting mixture.
