Class 98(2) [Also in Group XVI] Apparatus for applying by the method described in Specification 706,391 a sub-title or other matter to a positive kinematograph film comprises a main body part supported for pivotal movement about an axis at one end and having a part to engage a fixed abutment when the body part is moved to a position to effect the application of the sub-title or other matter to the work, a shaft having a limited angular adjustment in the main body part about an axis perpendicular to the axis about which the main body part swings and having movable with it a head at one end carrying means for holding a clichÚ carrying the sub-title or other matter, wherein the clichÚ holding means comprises a jaw fixed to the head and a second jaw movable in the head to clamp the clichÚ between the jaws. In the apparatus shown, the main body part 1 is provided with a handle 3 for pivoting'it about an axis 2. Extending through the part 1 at right angles to this axis 2 is a shaft 6 having a hollow head 7 in which an electrical heater 8 is mounted. A lever 11 terminating in a handle 13 is attached to the shaft 6 and has a transverse slot through which passes a spring-loaded stud 15, the slot and stud serving to limit the angular adjustment of the shaft 6 by handle 13. This stud has a pin 16 slidable in a slot 17 in the body 1 and a milled nut 19 for clamping the lever 11. A jaw 20 is attached to the shaft head 7 and a jaw 22, adjustable by a screw 24, is located in a slot in the head so that a clichÚ 23 can be held between the jaws. After the picture-bearing layer of the film has been softened with chemicals, the extent of penetration of the clichÚ into the film is predetermined by axial movement of shaft 6 by a nut 25 bearing a scale 30, handle 13 is operated to bring the sub-title on the clichÚ into parallelism with the part of the film to be impressed and then handle 3 is operated to lower the clichÚ on to the film.
