A sand or shot-blast room or chamber 3 has mounted in its roof or walls slotted rotatable pipes 4 each closed at one end and open at the other to an air trunk 6 supplied by a fan 7 or by induction from the atmosphere whereby curtains of air from the slots 5 can be directed by the operator by rotating the pipes and controlling a valve 9 at the entrance of each pipe 4 by means within the room. The valves 9 are linked in pairs to a rod 14 controlled by a solenoid 10 energised by a manual switch 11. The induction of air into the trunk 6 is effected by a suction fan (not shown) drawing air from the room through wall slots 18.
