708,200. Time-recording apparatus. BUCKNEY, D. P., and DENT & CO., Ltd., E. Jan. 24, 1952, No. 1942/52. Class 106 (4) A key-operated time-recorder comprises separate actuating devices for record-strip feed, ink ribbon feed and printing which project into a key-way and a key which, by a single longitudinal movement in one direction, first operates the actuating devices for the record-strip and ink ribbon feeds, then stations at a printing point an identification type mark loosely carried by the key and in the final stage of its movement, whilst the type mark remains stationary, operates the print-impressive device. The invention is shown applied to recording apparatus comprising a record strip X with take-up roll rotated by a ratchet wheel ASP2/SP, Fig. 3, a take-up roll for an ink ribbon Y rotated by a ratchet wheel B ; clock driven time printing discs C, CSP1/SP, Fig. 6, and an impressing pad D. A driving pawl E' for advancing wheel A2 is carried by a frame E which is supported on two studs J3 which are mounted on a back plate JSP1/SP and extend through slots in a sliding frame DSP2/SP and also through a slot E4 in the frame E. The frame E has an arm ESP5/SP which extends upwardly and normally rests on one side of a key-way FSP1/SP and is preferably furnished with a roller ESP6/SP. A ward H' on a key H moves the frame E to turn the wheel ASP2/SP and a spring E7 returns the frame E, one end of the slot E4 being widened and the lower side narrowed to free the pawl E' from the wheel ASP2/SP during the return stroke. A similar arrangement is provided for advancing the wheel B by a pawl G' when a ward H' engages a roller GSP6/SP on the opposite side of the keyway F. The frame D' which is mounted to slide on the studs JSP2/SP and J' has an extension D' which carries the pad D which presses the record strip X and ink ribbon Y against the type on the time discs C, CSP1/SP and against identification type HSP5/SP on the key H when a roller DSP5/SP on the frame D' is engaged by a ward HSP3/SP on the key H, a spring DSP6/SP raising the frame again when the key is withdrawn. The type HSP5/SP is mounted on a stem H4 which slides in the hollow key H, a spring HSP6/SP urging the stem outwards so that a pin HSP7/SP engages the end of a slot in the key. In operation the key first operates the paper and ribbon feed mechanisms, then positions the type HSP5/SP adjacent the time discs C, CSP1/SP where it is stopped by a plate J, the key is then pressed further against the action of the spring HSP6/SP until finally the impressing pad D causes printing. The wards HSP1/SP, H' and feed mechanism may be so formed that a partial paper and ribbon feed is performed when the key is withdrawn and completed when a key is next inserted.
