A surface 1SP1/SP, between two relatively rotating members, comprising a cylinder block 4 of an axial piston gear and a member 1 having oil supply and discharge ports 2, 3, has an annular groove 6 in its outer periphery. Oil from the supply port 2 is fed through a passage 7 which is put in communication with the groove 6 by one or more blind bores 8 disposed in the surface of the member 4. Some oil may flow back through the suction duct 3. The passages 7 may be provided with non-return valves. An annular groove 9 in the surface is in communication with the atmosphere through passages 10. Depressions 12, Fig. 4, may be provided in the groove 6. Modified forms of the groove 6 are shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
