Class 56 In the making of a cathode-ray tube wherein the window 3 and/or the cone 4 are each formed by causing a glass plate to sag into a mould 1, 2, the edge of the plate being clamped by a ring 5, 6 and the glass being finally pressed into the .mould by a die in order that a butt joint may be formed between window and cone, after the glass has sagged, but before the dies are inserted the clamps are removed and the glass edges are heated so that, on insertion of the dies, the edges are forced upwards along the sides of the die. The mould parts are then brought together about their hinges 12, 13 and the tube parts are welded together as shown in Fig. 3.
