726,058. Aerials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BUTSON, P. C., and THOMPSON, G. T. Dec. 31, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1953], No. 789/53. Class 40 (7). A horn radiator is provided with a plurality of parasitic slot elements disposed adjacent to the sides of the radiating aperture. These elements serve to modify the radiation pattern of the horn over a band of frequencies including that (or those) to which they are tuned and may be so arranged as to compensate, at any rate in part, for variations in the horn radiation pattern with respect to signal frequency. In the embodiment shown the longer sides 5 of a rectangular guide 1 are flared outwards as horn sides 4 and the narrow sides 3 continued parallel as horn sides 6. The ends of the sides 4 and 6 form the rectangular aperture of the guide but the walls 6 are provided with short extensions 7 each having a plurality of slots 8 cut in them. These slots have a depth of a quarter wavelength at a frequency towards the upper end of the band over which the system is intended to work. They need not be rectangular but may be V- shaped or tapering.
