[Also in Group II] A horizontal flow electrostatic precipitator is followed by a mechanical gas cleaner which acts on not more than the lower two-thirds of the gas stream. The mechanical cleaner may act on a lower portion of the gas stream which is less than the lower two-thirds, for example, onethird or one-half. The mechanical cleaner may be of the multiple-cyclone type with vertically or horizontally arranged flow tubes (see Group II). The precipitator described is of the plate type. A transverse perforated partition in the upper part of the outlet flue from the precipitator maintains uniform gas flow throughout the cross-section of the precipitator. An adjustable damper may be provided in association with the perforated partition for controlling the relative gas flow in the upper and lower portions of the outlet flue.
