730,580. Damping vibrations in ships. KORT, L. May 2, 1952, No. 11216/52. Classes 113(1) and 114. Vibrations and noises produced by a ship's propeller are damped by covering the insides of the plates forming the hull and/or appendages thereto, in way of the circumference of the propeller disc, with vibration or noise absorbing material. The latter may be concrete, rubber, wood or artificial resin and may be applied directly to the inside of the hull plating. In a ship fitted with a Kort nozzle the inside of the double-walled nozzle ring may be fitted completely with noise absorbing material c or the latter may be provided only adjacent to the propeller as at b. Alternatively the inside of the plating forming the nozzle ring may be covered with noise absorbing material.
