732,861. Lancashire &c. steam boilers. UMRIGAR, S. M. April 14, 1953 [May 6, 1952], No. 10224/53. Class 123 (2). In a Lancashire &c. boiler with a plurality of furnace flues, the feed-water is first heated in a multi-U tube 16 fitted in the smoke-box 22 or chimney 16 of the boiler and is then led into the boiler through one or more check valves 12 and associated pipes 12B, the latter each depending to the space between two adjacent furnace flues. Further, the top of each furnace flue is protected against fouling by a spaced shield which is formed of three longitudinal plates 8 and is secured to the flue by encircling chains 4, said plates 8 being re-inforced by arcuate bars 2, hinged together at 9, 10 along their abutting edges, and provided with radial spacing pins 1.
