[Also in Group XXVIII] In the Lancashire boiler shown comprising flues 2, 3 (not shown), each with a grate 5 and fire-bridges 6, 7, each fire-bridge 7 accommodates two blowing nozzles 11 supplied from a point 12 via a valve and pipes 14, 15, with steam and/or compressed air. The pipe 15, passing through the space between the bridges 6, 7, has a heat-resisting sleeve 16 spaced apart therefrom, the space being filled with heat-insulating material 17, Fig. 3. The sleeve 16 has an inclined roof portion 21 of heatresisting metal for deflecting falling ash &c. from the sleeve and the space between the roof 21 and the flue is filled with a fireclay material 22. In a modification, the sleeve 16, instead of containing material 17, may be apertured in two or more places in order to serve as a cooling air duct. The roof 21 may be of high alumina fireclay.
