In a berthing place for vessels furnished with suspended fenders arranged for displacement in an inward and upward direction, the fenders extend rearwards from their vessel-contacting surface. The fender is suspended at positions spaced in a fore and aft direction and is provided with a rearwardly localized weight; furthermore, is suspended at three positions only, each position being vertically below a part of the berthing place decking. The front of the fender is vertical and rotatable about a vertical axis. In the embodiment shown the front member 1 is encircled by tyres 2 and connected by struts 3 to a weight 4, the fender being suspended by front link 5 and rear links 6 from the decking 7 of the berthing place.
