The caking tendency of ammonium sulphate, and of mixtures containing this sulphate as an essential constituent, is reduced by adding a water-soluble cadmium salt to the solid sulphate or to the solid mixture. Cadmium sulphate, nitrate, or chloride may be used in amount not more than 0.1, preferably 0.001-0.05 per cent. The cadmium salt may be intimately mixed with the sulphate, either by atomizing a dilute aqueous solution on to solid ammonium sulphate, or by adding the salt to a suspension of ammonium sulphate, separating the sulphate from the mother liquor, and drying.
