Class 117 Tablets, sweets, or like pieces p are (graded according to their thickness by being fed on their edges by a shoot 4 on to the upper part of the peripheries of a pair of spaced discs 1 rotating about a horizontal axis, and having their faces spaced apart a distance equal to the critical thickness desired, so that the thinner pieces fall between the discs and are delivered to a shoot 5 and the thicker pieces pass round the peripheries to a shoot 6. The shoots include deflectors 4a, 5a and 6a. To provide a further grading the outputs from the shoots may be fed to further pairs of discs. In the modification of Fig. 5 each one of a pair of discs 1 has a step 1b on its inner face so that pieces of medium thickness are caught by the steps and pass to a shoot 5. The thickest and thinnest pieces are delivered to shoots 6 and 7 respectively. A row of discs may be mounted on a shaft to deal with several rows of pieces delivered to them by a conveyer.
