A flue-gas valve for a kiln, e.g..in the ceramic industry, comprises a supporting plate 1 having a valve opening 5 and a depending tube 2 for inserting within the flue and which is provided with a cylindrical lining 3 of which the internal diameter corresponds to the diameter of the valve opening and which extends upwardly to provide a raised narrow seat 6 for the valve closure member 8.' The depending tube 2 is generally square as shown and fits within the flue brickwork. The cylindrical lining 3 prevents eddying of the gases in the corner spaces 4 and loosening of the brickwork due to thermal expansion. The support-plate 1 is provided with ribs 12, 13 which are set into mortar and squeeze out air bubbles which may escape through holes 14 between the ribs and into which the mortar clings. This prevents loosening of the valve. The valve overlies the seat at 11 to protect it against entry of foreign matter. The valve support 1 is provided with handles 15.
