Class 86 [Also in Group III] A mixing apparatus for extracting mineral oil with a' selective solvent comprises a container for the liquids housing at least 3 rotors having parallel axes arranged one above the other and means for rotating each rotor dn a direction opposite to that of the rotor adjacent to it. Fig. 1 shows a container 1 provided with six rotors 2 in the form of elongated cylinders; alternatively, the rotors may each consist of a shaft having a number of discs distributed along its length. Conveyer plates 7 or guiding bodies 8 are fitted between adjacent rotors. Oil is introduced at 4 and the extracting agent at 3, and the oil and extract phase leave the container at 6 and 5 respectively. Fig. 3 shows a modification of the apparatus wherein two groups of rotors are used. The apparatus may also be used for a 2-solvent extraction, wherein the oil is introduced at an intermediate point and the 2 solvents at the top and bottom of the apparatus.
