[Also in Group XXXVI] Transmission of rotary movement through a fluid-tight wall, particularly for actuating the movable contact of a potentiometer which is required to work in a neutral or inert atmosphere, is effected through a link member 14 which is universally coupled at its ends to diametrically opposite points of a driving member 16 and a driven member 9 and is supported intermediate its length on a flexible diaphragm 8 in a fluid-tight manner. The driving member 16 is on a spindle 11 which on rotation will swivel the link 14 about the centre of the diaphragm 8 without rotating it and impart rotation to the member 9. The member 9 carries the movable contact 1 of the circular track 2 of a potentiometer in a sheet metal housing 5, 6 closed by the diaphragm 8 and having a ceramic lining 3, 4. Instead of the diaphragm 8 a bellows may be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 655,801.
