808,857. Roller drive, draft regulating and recording. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G. m. b. H. May 24, 1956 [June 15, 1955], No. 16134/56. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A test spinning frame for studying drafts has three pairs of rollers and is characterized in that three gears are provided in such a manner that, in relation to a driving motor for the mechanism, the speeds of the delivery rollers, feed rollers and intermediate rollers can be varied by the first gear, the speeds of the feed rollers and intermediate rollers can be varied by the second gear and the speeds of the intermediate rollers only can be varied by the third gear. In the arrangement shown (Fig. 2) motor 2 drives a drum 6 which in turn drives spindles 9 by means of tapes 8. A drive is also taken from the shaft or drum 6 to a variable speed gear 12 which has a direct drive to the front roller 19 and also a drive to a second variable speed gear 13. From the latter a direct drive is taken to the rear roller 17 and another to a third variable speed gear 14 and from there to the middle roller 18. Thus by regulating the variable speed gears 12, 13, 14 by means of handles 23, 31, 39, any variation in the overall draft and the intermediate drafts may be obtained. Means for measuring and recording the uneveness of the roving entering the drafting mechanism and of the yarn leaving it is shown in Fig. 3, and comprises measuring condensers 59, 60, transmitters 61, 62; amplifiers 63, 64; recording heads 65, 66 and magnetic recording tape 67. The recording heads 65, 66 are arranged a distance apart such that the time interval for the tape 67 to pass from one to the other is exactly the same as the time intervals for fibres in the roving to pass from the condenser 59 to condenser 60. In this way the recordings on tape 67 give side-by-side information about the roving and the corresponding yarn produced. Two reproducing heads 68, 69 are provided on the tape and signals from these are passed through amplifiers 63, 64 to measuring instruments 70, 71 and/or curve recorders 72, 73. In a second embodiment the magnetic tape is omitted the signals are used directly on turve recorders. The whole apparatus thus enables the drafting operation to be varied at will and the result of such variation to be studied.
