Class 75(1) In an oil burner having a spigot 18 fitting into a socket 12 and fastening means operated by relative rotation of the spigot and socket, a locking device for preventing relative rotation of the spigot and socket is provided and comprises a resiliently urged plunger 31 disposed radially with respect to the axes of the spigot and socket. The spigot 18 is formed at the lower end of a basket 14 containing a wick and the socket 12 is formed at the top of an oil reservoir 10. The socket is of inverted U-shape in radial section having a plane annular top face 21 to which are attached metal tabs 23, the free portions 23b of the tabs being disposed horizontally a short distance above the top face. The basket is fastened to the oil reservoir by engaging the spigot 18 in the socket 12 so that holes 24 in the basket engage over the tabs 23, and then turning the basket through a small angle. The plunger 31 is slidably mounted in a cylinder 26 which extends through a hole in the outer wall of the socket 12, abuts the inner wall thereof and is fastened to both walls. The plunger projects through a hole in the inner wall of the socket 12 to engage in a hole 37 in the spigot 18. An enlarged diameter part of the plunger abuts the turned in inner edge of the cylinder 26 to limit the outward movement of the plunger. A stem secured to the plunger extends through the outer end of the cylinder and has a flat circular head 30 which is gripped by the fingers when the plunger is being retracted. In a modified construction the spigot is screw threaded into the socket and the locking plunger comprises a stud provided on a leaf spring. The plunger may be disposed on the basket and arranged to engage a hole in the reservoir.
