[Also in Group XXVII] In an internal-combustion engine for a cross-country or pit vehicle the sump is divided into two compartments 5, 6 by a transverse partition 4 having connected thereto a baffleplate 7 overlying part, preferably one-third to two-thirds, of each of the compartments, from one 6 to the other 5 of which oil is continuously and directly transferred by a pump 9. Seals 15 are thus kept above oil level despite severe fore-and-aft engine tilting. The pump 9 forms with an engine-supply pump 12 a unit conveniently located for drive from the crankshaft.
