A method of clamping one flanged joist 10 against the underside of another joist 11 at an angle thereto comprises arranging two upper clamping plates 13 to engage one over each lower flange of the upper joist 11 and two lower clamping plates 12 to engage one over each upper flange of the lower joist 10, all of said plates projecting outwardly from the edges of the respective flanges and thereafter drawing said upper and lower plates together by four bolts introduced through aligned apertures 16 in the projecting portions of the plates. Each plate has a corrugation 14 and each upper plate 13 has a slightly angled or upturned inner edge portion 15 to fit the flange of the joist 11. Alternatively, instead of the corrugation 14, a plurality of separated depressions are provided in one face of each plate so that a plurality of bumps or projections extend from the other face of each plate. The joists are arranged at right angles to each other or at 45 degrees or less.
