Roll Consumption at Tata Steel has been reduced over the years in both the Flat & Long Product Mills thro' 1) Use of new & better roll materials 2) Increase in starting diameters of rolls 3) Salvaging of rolls 4) Improvements in Roll Shop Practices 5) Roll design improvements for avoidance of roll failures As an indication of the impact of the above measures, in the Hot Strip Mill alone the roll consumption has been brought down over the last six years by almost 65%.
