A remotely controlled indicator for a dictaphone comprises a paper indicating record 40 (Fig. 9) marked with a scale 45 and having a space 43 for comments and a piercing pin 106 the traverse of which parallel to the record 40 is correlated with the movement of the transducer head 56 across the endless belt 22 of magnetic recording material. Construction of machine.-The belt of record material 22 (Fig. 3) passes round the driven roller 24 and the idle roller 26 Fig. 2 (not shown.), and under the transducing head 56, attached by the arm 60 to a carriage 62 sliding on a bar 68 which extends transversely across the machine. Free to pivot on the carriage but constrained axially are two arms 80 and 84. The arm 80 is held by the clip 92 in contact with a lead screw 88 parallel to the shaft 68. The arm 84 carries a blade 96 which is held in driving engagement with the screw by a tension spring 86 and a latch 76 which also provides a means of holding the blade 96 out of engagement with the screw, Also pivoted on the carriage 62 is an arm 100 having at its lower end a pin 106 which in moving to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 3 pierces the paper record 40 held in the slot 44 formed between the two plates 38 and 42. The arm 100 has a projection 114 engaging a transverse bar 116 extending across the machine and pivoted near its upper edge at 124. A bracket 136 attached to this bar is acted on by a solenoid 126 through a lever 130. The push button operating switch for the solenoid is contained in the case of the microphone associated. with the dictaphone and may be at some distance from the machine itself.
