831,795. Making bolts and shafts; force-fits. LAMSON & SESSIONS CO. Sept. 17, 1956 [Sept. 16, 1955; June 15, 1956], No. 28418/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] An article intended for fixed engagement of a knurled part 11, Fig. 1, thereof in an opening 15 in an associated part or parts 17, 18, comprises a body having a number of knurl-projections 21, Figs. 3, 4. Each projection has a transverse portion 28 at one end forming the high-point 24, and a convexly-curved part 22 extending from the high-point to the opposite end 23. The article may be a bolt having a head 13 and screwed shank part 14, a screwed stud or plain journal or shaft secured to a workpiece by a knurled portion; or a dowel-pin, or a rotatable shaft 41, Fig. 7, to which is to be fixed a wheel 42, e.g. a pulley, flywheel, gear-wheel or sector, or a road-wheel. The article knurled portion is a force fit in the workpiece and the high-points 24 may be plastically deformed during assembly. In a modified form of knurling, the transverse end portion 28 is triangular, and the annular rows of knurl projections are separated by annular grooves.
