Grain or seeds, such as coffee or cocoa beans, peanuts, walnuts, chestnuts, soya beans, rice, wheat or sesame or rape seeds, are restored, mellowed and preserved from deterioration by introducing into an airtight chamber in which they are stored a mixture of chlorine and hydrogen, preferably at atmospheric pressure and in the approximate ratio of 2 : 1.ALSO:Agricultural and marine products, such as coffee or cocoa beans, peanuts, walnuts, chestnuts, soya beans, rice, wheat, sesame or rape seeds, copra, fruits such as oranges, apples, or pineapples, dried mushrooms, black or green tea, dried bonito, scallons, shark's fin, &c., are restored, mellowed, and preserved from deterioration by introducing into an airtight chamber in which they are stored a mixture of chlorine and hydrogen, preferably at atmospheric pressure and in the approximate ratio of 2 : 1.
