Face mask and similar devices having body-conforming means

In order to ensure satisfactory sealing of the rim of a face mask with the face of the user the edge is made hollow and is filled with a non-setting, mouldable material comprising a finely-divided, insoluble organic polymer in a viscous, non-polymerising organic liquid. The face-contacting portion can thus be readily shaped as required and will retain the shape as long as required. The materials used must be unaffected by steam sterilisation and suitable polymers include vinyl and epoxy resins, polyethylene-terephthalate, polyamides, phenol - formaldehyde and polyurethane resins, cuprene and polyvinyl chloride. Suitable viscous liquids are polyhydric alcohol or glycerin.
