In manufacturing hardened facing bricks and other ceramic articles a mixture of inferior clay, e.g. waste clay, and cement or cement clinker is pressed, hardened by steam under pressure, and glazed or enamelled. In an example 80 parts by weight of inferior clay and 20 parts by weight of cement or cement clinker are ground and mixed, pressed at 140-160 kg/cm2, and steam treated at 160-180 DEG C and 8 atmospheres pressure for 4 hours in a digester.
