[Also in Group XXXVI] In an electrolytic condenser arrangement terminals are provided at both ends of the electrodes so that it may be employed as an LP filter, direct or low frequency currents traversing the electrodes, and any higher frequencies being attenuated. An arrangement is described wherein an ionised gas is used as an electrolyte and the ionisation is made veriable. In the gas filled arrangement, Fig. 12, a gaseous medium such as mercury vapour or a rare gas is employed between an oxide or other dielectric layer 3 disposed on inner electrode 1 or outer electrode 5 and the ends are sealed. A striking electrode 16 is provided in conjunction with a battery 14 to maintain ionisation, and the battery voltage is made variable so that the conductivity can be controlled. A pump connected to the outlet or inlet 12 can be used to determine the attenuation. The electrodes may be planar.
