The metal enters the mould cavity 15 through an annular channel 13 communicating with the cavity via inlet channels 14 or a circumferential inlet. 16 is a circumferential air venting gap and 5 a coolant jacket. The upper and lower core parts 6, 3 are each carried by an hydraulic piston for insertion and removal, and one of said pistons may serve to press out the finished casting from the mould.
