In a battery-driven vehicle connections between the batteries and the vehicle wiring are effected as the battery trough 2 is lowered on to the vehicle chassis 1 by plug connectors 3 . . . 6 mounted beneath the trough which engage socket connectors 7 . . . 10 mounted on a bar 27 on the chassis, the parts of each plug-and-socket connector having housings (see Fig. 4) which interengage to form a flameproof enclosure before the contacts engage. The ends of the bar 27 carry pins 25, 26 which enter holes 23, 24 in the battery trough to guide the latter. The socket connectors are attached to the bar by resilient bushings 31 and the bar itself is mounted on resilient supports 28 . . . 30 whereby the connectors have a limited amount of lateral aligning movement. Each socket contact comprises a ring of Z-shaped elements 38 spring-pressed on to the co-operating pin contact 21 and connection between the pins and the batteries is effected through links 18 and fuses 13, Fig. 2, housed in boxes 11, 12 above the plug connectors.
